Well the farce is over a trial where people could take their last shots at Trump with no real chance for success is done with the predictable outcome. What a waste of time and money the Democrats knew they could not get the Senate to go along with impeachment but did it anyway. The real malfeasance was not Trump supposed incitement, after all he did say to march to the capitol peacefully, of course the media dismisses that out of hand and most people don't even know Trump said peacefully. The real problem is when claims of irregularities are dismissed out of hand. Weather you believe the vote was completely above board or completely crooked it should be given a fair examination. When people see complaints ignored by courts or other officials you inflame people far more than any speech could.
Just a little food for thought if the election was so fair and honest why are the Democrats so afraid of investigation?
I'd wondered if you would post on his acquittal. It's true we always knew what the outcome would most likely be. The Republicans made their decision -as McConnell said afterwards- not because Trump wasn't guilty but because McConnell refused to receive the impeachment until too late to begin the trial during Trump's term in office. Trump stated outright that Trump was guilty and should be charged in court but that he didn't believe the impeachment trial should be held now that Trump is out of office.
ReplyDeleteYes, Trump said the word "peacefully" once towards the end of his speech after many of the folks who'd been there were already at the capitol. And the occasional mention of the word "peaceful" doesn't outweigh his years-long insistence that the only way he could lose would be if the election were stolen. I mean he said this same thing before the 2016 election. This timeline of the insurrection hasn't been disputed by Trump supporters:

Claims of irregularities during the election were _not_ dismissed out of hand but were investigated and litigated dozens of times. We Democrats are not "afraid of investigation".
The snow here is a wonder! There's a Weather Channel crew downtown on Beale Street!
oops... I meant _McConnell_ not Trump "stated outright that Trump was guilty"
DeleteWe get the snow all the time, it tends to lose it's wonder.
DeleteThere was some investigation, but for the most part the courts refused to even hear the cases. If the Democrats had nothing to fear they should have been maybe even more eager to look into things than the Republicans. After all if everything was above board it could only help Biden.
