Everyone has heard President Obama's statement by now, You didn't build that.. It doesn't matter how you reacted to the statement some saw it as a denigration of people who have achieved success in the business world others just saw it as a statement on the importance of the federal government in any ones success.
I think the big difference come from peoples mind set and how we view success and failure. because if we didn't succeed on our own we can also say we didn't fail on our own. I think this is a major difference between the left and right. People on the left seem to look for societal cause for everything. That's why they seem to almost always be looking to government for solutions. On the right people tend to see success and failure as coming from our own personal decisions. I tend to agree with the right because opportunities are there for everyone it's all in what we do with our opportunities.
To once again fulfill the greatness that is the U.S.A. we need to stop blaming others for our shortcomings and quit expecting someone else to pave our way.

but someone else has already paved the way.
ReplyDeleteit can't be denied that we didn't build the roads and bridges and other common infrastructure that make a lot of individual business successes possible. we all get help from others, including the government, and we all benefit from those who have gone before. we are not each of us an island unto ourselves.
i understand the resentment of accomplishing something and then feeling like the extent of our effort hasn't been appreciated, but this whole "i built it" thing seems based on a deliberate misunderstanding of what the president said. romney has said the exact same thing on more than one occasion.
this seems to me to be a fine example of political posturing.
giving credit to others for aiding our successes and blaming others for our failures isn't limited to a particular political leaning.
Divers, of course we all build upon the people that went before us this is only natural. The presidents policies and overall negative tone towards businesses in his speeches led people to hear him in this way. You may be right that both parties like to blame each other, but I think the parties differ greatly in solutions. The left tends to think the the government can solve all our problem or at least should try and the right thinks individuals can better solve problems.
