Hope

I don't live in Massachusetts but it still feels like I won. Politics is sometimes like sports even though we're not on the team we'll say we won. When in fact we are not on the team.

Brown won great now what happens. Will my life change for better or worse who knows.

The one truly big plus to come out of Brown's election is the message it sends. This is a state that is owned by the Democrats, Browns victory is a huge upset. Hopefully politicians are waking up this morning and thinking maybe we should listen to the people and realizing who they work for.

  1. And in a recent special election held an hour from my house, a Democrat won a House seat that has been held by Republicans for more than 150 years.

It can be easy to read too much into elections. To some extent, you have to take it case by case. The Democrat in Mass campaigned so poorly that I can hardly remember her name a day later (Coaxley, right?). Brown worked hard. Is there a bigger trend? Maybe not. And if there is, it's sort of sad... sad in that it shows how fickle we are. Supposedly, everyone wanted change a year ago, record numbers voted, everyone was horrified with the Republican party, etc, etc, etc. Magical change didn't come overnight, and so now everyone is rushing to the polls because now the Republicans are going to make it better?

  2. Jockeystreet, just because the people wanted change doesn't mean they wanted the changes that have been being enacted or being proposed. After all the grass is always greener on the other side of the street, at least until you get there

  3. But I guess that that's sort of what I mean. I wouldn't take this as a sign that the people of Mass or the country are somehow giving a "yes" vote to Republican ideals. A year ago the tone in the country was absolute contempt for the Republican party. Now in some areas the Republicans are supposedly saviors from the evil Obama machine. I see it as frustration all over the place, in part due to very hard times, in part due to fear-mongering blasting over the radio, and in part due to specific political positions. But I don't think too much should be read into individual elections right now.

  4. The election is over, now it's time to get to work: the best minds in the GOP are now coming together to figure out how to best sabotage this victory.

The biggest loser in the election? Ben Nelson. He whored himself out so blatantly that his chances of re-election in Nebraska are looking quite bad. Now he won't even get the bribe that he sold himself out for.
