Voter fraud

Whenever new rules pertaining to voter ID or registration are proposed people on the left claim there is no need because of the lack of fraud or illegal votes. The numbers out of North Carolina aught to put these arguments to rest. With tens of thousands of double registrations and thousands of double votes found we have overwhelming proof of a voting system in desperate need of repair.

We demand that new born babies be issued social security cards why not register babies to vote and issue them a national voting identification number photo id to be issued at eighteen.

  1. the current voter id requirement is difficult to meet for many. my mother's driver's license hadn't had a photo on it in decades when the requirement was instituted. taking her out to the driver's license station, staying in line for hours... well, let's just say her physical condition made that extremely difficult. her oxygen tank didn't last long enough for one thing, that's how long the line is. obtaining voter id shouldn't be that hard. future plans are all well and good and worth working out, but the current system put in place by our republican legislators does seem to particularly disadvantage the frail, elderly & poor.

my understanding of the north carolina issue is that it's under investigation and no case of actual voter fraud has yet been found. if it turns out like similar broo ha ha in other states, the problem may be more due to poll worker error or data problems than to anyone voting twice and no actual voter fraud will be found. from what i'm seeing they are backing off the claims of actual voter fraud until they've investigated further. i'm certainly not claiming there's no voter fraud -there's always been voter fraud- but fixing it should not make it nearly impossible for legal votes to be cast.

this is a sore point with me (can you tell? lol) because of how difficult these republican-backed changes made it for my mother to vote when she had voted for so long without any problem.

  2. I'm sorry it caused so much difficulty for your mother. My problem with not requiring photo id is the silliness of the complaints. People can't travel by air, get a hotel room,or even buy many cold medicines without photo id. All of those are vastly less important than assuring honest elections. After all one of the reasons many people don't vote is they don't feel it makes any difference.

    1. i think they should never have allowed the elderly to stop putting photos on their drivers' licenses, but i think photo ids should be much more readily accessible. here, there was a campaign to allow the public library to issue them. the library already requires ss# and suitable id to get a card, so they added photos and tried to get it approved as a voter id by the state. it was much easier to get for the poor & elderly, because of location and shorter wait times. the republicans at the state level fought it, and it was not approved. i don't object to a photo id. i object to making it hard to get

  3. Truth is we have no idea how prevalent voter fraud is. Here is an article from my end of Ohio. It isn't the first. If we have a few caught there are probably many we haven't caught. If you catch a shoplifter in your store it doesn't mean you have caught all shoplifters in all stores.

It is undeniable that there is a good number of people who believe the "ends justifies the means" and use that mentality to rationalize vote fraud. With all the voting fraud how can anyone consider the current administration legitimate. I may be in the minority on this issue, but strongly believe we need to tighten the voting process. End the early voting nonsense and limit absentee voting to military and embassy people overseas. Require a photo ID for all voters. If someone is incapable of getting an ID then they probably shouldn't be making the decision on who should lead this nation. Lastly, cross check voter rolls by including Social Security numbers to eliminate the ridiculous crap of people voting in multiple jurisdictions.

wow! seems like a bit of a leap to me.

i do agree with you that early voting and absentee voting may have been taken too far.

on the other hand this: "If someone is incapable of getting an ID then they probably shouldn't be making the decision on who should lead this nation" is just not true. my mother was frail and weak in body, but her mind was sharp as a tack 'til the end. the roadblocks they have set up to make obtaining a photo id around here hard are inexcusable unless the true agenda is disenfranchising certain legitimate voters.

    2. I don't know where you are referring to in this paragraph, "the roadblocks they have set up to make obtaining a photo id around here hard are inexcusable unless the true agenda is disenfranchising certain legitimate voters." but most places it is pretty easy to get an id. However, even if it's a little difficult (which I don't necessarily accept as being the case) it is far better to make it difficult for a couple than to make it easy to commit fraud for many. Faith in the integrity of our election process is essential. Separately, here is a link to a Wall Street Journal article addressing the disingenuous comments the president recently made in attempt to downplay the wide spread voter fraud that he benefited from in last two elections. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303380004579521603120225572 Was the fraud enough to make a difference in the outcome? Without knowing how much vote fraud there was, who really knows?

    3. since you deny my personal knowledge of our own local situation and merely reaffirm your own opinion, further input from me on the subject in response to you here seems fairly pointless. just sayin' i'm hearing you and choosin' not to offer anything further since you don't believe what little i've already said.

  4. An added thought that came to me as I attempted to post my comment and struggled to decipher the captcha password, we make it much more difficult to prove someone is a legitimate commenter on this blog as opposed to a computer generated spam than we do to vote.
