Fundamental misunderstanding

This week everyone is weighing in on the compromise between President Obama and the Republicans. Sherrod Brown senator from Ohio was disappointed with the compromise feeling it gives to much to the rich. He said it was pretty bad when republicans had to be given tax cuts for the rich so that we could give unemployment to the middle class.

Fundamentally Dems and Reps look at government differently thats why this debate keeps coming up. Dems believe the government has money to give and Reps believe the government has to take money to have money. You see the tax cuts are not really cuts they are a vote against a massive tax increase. Unemployment compensation can not be given by the government it is money that must be taken from someone else and given to the unemployed.

The true nature of money is obscured by the notion that it comes from the government. I know the gold standard is no longer doable but people had a better understanding of what money is and where it comes from under that system.

  1. I struggle to decide whether it is legitimate ignorance or intentional avoidance of facts. Taxing is the government taking money. Taking less is not giving money. If I walk through a bad neighborhood with a couple hundred bucks in my pocket and I make it home safely without being mugged does that mean a mugger gave me money? Of course not! Along the same line unemployment insurance is equally misunderstood. Workers are coerced into paying for unemployment insurance by the state to pay them a stipend while looking for their next job if they lose their current job. It was set up with an expiration date to encourage people to find new jobs. If we keep moving the end date people will continue to delay looking seriously for a new job.

  2. In that long diatribe I failed to address the foolish senator from Ohio. Obviously, Brown is playing class warfare because electoral history has shown that class warfare works to fool the proletariat. I have no idea who might challenge Brown in 2012, but hopefully we find someone with a better understanding of basic economics.
