I recently read Glenn Beck's Common Sense. Beck speaks of a need to return to the principles of the founders of our nation.
At the end he talks about the 9.12 project, 9 principles and 12 values.
The values are honesty, reverence, hope, thrift, humility, charity, sincerity, moderation, hard work, courage, personal responsibility, and gratitude.
A few of the principles are 1. America is good, 6. I have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results 9.The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
The rest of the principles can be found at the912project.com
I enjoyed the book which points out where government has been failing at the principles and values. As a bonus it included Thomas Paine's Common Sense.

In principle, of course, I agree with all of the things you've listed here. Problem is, in years of listening to Glenn Beck, I've found him often lacking in honesty, often lacking in reverence, almost completely devoid of humility, often low on sincerity, almost completely devoid of moderation (in some areas), and far too often unwilling to take personal responsibility. So, it's sort of hard to hear these things coming from him. Like a porn star lecturing me on why I should be chaste. Maybe true, but come on, really?
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing some interesting reviews of Beck's book. I don't agree with Beck on hardly anything. When I find myself agreeing with some individual point he makes, I realize that either I disagree with every one of the presuppositions that led him to it or I disagree with the conclusions he jumps to.
ReplyDeleteI've never listened to Beck. However I thought he was some staunch conservative. Reading his book he comes across as more of a Libertarian.
